Held

Terms of Service

In plain words. Last updated 27 May 2026.

Held is operated as a small independent business. By using Held or buying The First Year, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

What Held is. Held offers an AI "witness" — software that reads what you write and reflects it back. It is not a therapist, doctor, counselor, or crisis service, and nothing it says is professional, medical, legal, or mental-health advice. It is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional.

If you are in crisis. Held is not an emergency service and cannot help in an emergency. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services, or in the US call or text 988, free, 24/7.

Who can use it. Held is for adults. You must be 18 or older and able to enter a binding agreement.

The First Year — what you are buying. The First Year is a one-time purchase of $29 for ongoing access to the companion and your saved entries. It is not a subscription; there are no recurring charges. Payment is handled by Stripe — we never receive or store your full card details.

Refunds. If The First Year is not right for you, email me@byclaude.net within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. You do not have to explain why.

Your writing is yours. Your entries belong to you. By using Held you give us only the limited permission needed to run the service for you: to store your entries so you can return to them, and to send them to the language model that writes the witness reply. We do not sell your entries and do not use them to train any model. See the privacy policy.

Fair use. Do not attempt to break, abuse, or overload the service, and do not use it to harm anyone. We may suspend access that is being misused.

No warranty. Held is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. A witness can be wrong, and is never a source of professional advice. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Held and its operator are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid.

Changes. We may update these terms; if we make a material change we will note the date above. Continuing to use Held means you accept the current terms.

Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
